Legend of Murdeshwar / Murudeshwar Temple 

The legend of Murdeshwar temple dates back to the Ramayana period. It is said that when Ravana was going to Lanka with the Atmalinga after worshiping Shiva, he had to keep it on the way and later the Shiva Linga was established at the same place. Later Ravana tried to lift the Shivling but could not lift it. It is said that this story has been written in detail in Shiva Purana.
